Thanks to actone, students from Literacy Phoenix enjoyed a virtual reality
On Friday, February 21, 2025, students from Literacy Phoenix gathered at the Central Phoenix Learning Center (1150 E. Jefferson Street) to experience virtual reality. Twenty-four students, along with five staff members, were immersed in the virtual reality field trip Weaving Our Story, taking them on a 360° visual and audio journey through three local Indigenous Arizona artists’ work on the themes of weaving, storytelling, music, public art, and cultural heritage.
The VR Field Trip experience, provided by Act One, was as immersive as nothing our students have ever experienced. The expert introductory information the Act One team provided at the beginning of each of the three chapters -weaving, dancing, and creating art pieces- helped generate engagement and increase excitement as students eagerly put their headsets in place and dove into the world of Arizona’s indigenous arts.
The excitement continued well after the movie ended while students had an opportunity to spend time with each other. Students lingered at the Central Phoenix Learning Center, providing thoughts and feedback on the movie, getting acquainted with it, and making new friends while enjoying light refreshments. All students who attended the event were entered to win prizes.

We will host this event again, the virtual reality field trip Weaving Our Story, on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 5:30 PM at our Sunnyslope Learning Center (729 E. Hatcher Road).
