On Saturday, November 8th, the Literacy Phoenix Board of Directors hosted a fundraising event at the Changing Hands Bookstore. About 35 attendees listened attentively while the MC, Ty Brennan, interviewed three prominent Valley authors: Kara McDowell, author of young adult and adult fiction, published by Scholastic and Wednesday Books; Terri Fields, award-winning teacher and author, founder of Reading is Sweet; and Allison Brennan, NY Times and USA Today best-selling author. Everyone in attendance enjoyed listening to the authors talk about how they got started writing, what their days are like while writing, what inspires them to write about a particular topic, etc. The event was a huge success as over $10,000 was raised for Literacy Phoenix, the authors sold some of their books, and the attendees got a glimpse of the life of an author. The attendees also enjoyed hors d’oeuvres provided by the Board and a beverage of their choice from the Changing Hands Bookstore bar. Due to the success of the event, the Board looks forward to hosting another one sometime in the near future.
