Empowering adults to achieve literacy and improve their quality of life.

Providing Education for more than 20 years

Literacy Phoenix has been one of the  Arizona Department of Education / Adult Education Services  (ADE/AES)  program providing Adult Basic and Secondary Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages for more than 20 years.

Programs

Literacy Phoenix is a community-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Phoenix, Arizona dedicated to improve lives by providing adult education offering two main programs:

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

Literacy Phoenix helps adults to improve their reading, writing, and mathematical skills, and prepare them for the GED® test to attain a High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Literacy Phoenix offers English Language classes for adult speakers of other languages including civics and citizenship lessons.

Our Services

Our Learning Centers offer flexible, self-paced, blended-learning programs including face-to-face classes, computer-based instruction, remote classes and tutoring. Our adult education certified instructors complement classroom  instruction with learning software to advance -at a faster pace- the student’s reading ability, HSE/GED® preparation and English for speakers of other languages.

Literacy Phoenix also offers college and career readiness workshops and training opportunities. Literacy Phoenix curriculum is aligned and in compliance with the Arizona Department of Education / Adult Education Services requirements.

LVMC offers a Distance Learning program to expand our geographic reach by supporting students with online services and better serve those who cannot attend in person.

LVMC offers online registration, virtual classes, tutoring, and more. Students may attend a Learning Center to use the computer lab, attend in-person, or meet with a tutor.

LVMC partners with many social service organizations throughout the valley to help our students connect their basic education objectives with workplace, career, and higher education goals. Concurrently with the educational programs, LVMC incorporates soft skills, digital literacy, and career and financial aid exploration.
LVMC provides English Language classes for adults at different sites in the community such as public libraries, community centers and elementary schools.

Get The Facts

In 1982 the population of Maricopa County was about 900,000. Currently, the population is over 2.8 million. According to recent estimates, there are more than 500,000 adults in Maricopa County who are “functionally illiterate.” These individuals are unable to keep pace in our complex society and in today’s highly technical workplace.
